RESEARCH SUPPORT

Electronic resources

The Bruno Library subscribes to a wide variety of electronic databases, many of which are available to users outside the library. Visit the databases page on our website to see the complete list. All databases marked "UA, Remote" can be accessed from off campus; databases marked "C&BA complex" can be accessed from any of the C&BA buildings. Databases may offer information on companies, economic time series data, research reports, or articles from magazines, newspapers, and scholarly journals.

Loans, renewals and fines
Contact person: Donna Minor, 8-1084

Faculty circulation policies:

At this time, faculty are not charged overdue fines. Faculty may be charged lost book fines. Faculty members are expected to return items that have been recalled by another person.

There is a procedure for authorizing someone else – your research assistant, etc. – to borrow materials on your behalf. The items would then be charged to your account. Use the proxy form to set this up.

Document delivery

If we don't have the item you need, you can use one of the following document delivery methods to request the item from elsewhere.

Photocopying and printing in the library

Photocopying and printing costs are five cents per page. The library's printing system is separate from the system used in the Bashinsky Computer Lab and requires that the user have BamaCash on his Action Card. Photocopying also requires the use of BamaCash.

The various C&BA departments have cards for both printing and photocopying that you or your research assistant may borrow. Check with your department for more information.

Request a purchase

We are happy to receive your purchase requests. Please send your book requests to Karen Chapman, either directly through email or campus mail (Box 870266) or by using the purchase request form on the Bruno website.

Serials (continuing items like periodicals and databases) are generally purchased once a year in the late spring, to begin the following January. Identifying funding for continuing items can be more difficult, but we will make every effort to satisfy your research needs. An invitation to faculty to recommend new serials titles is issued every spring.

Research assistance

Contact any of the librarians for assistance. We will be happy to help you identify sources of data or information that you need for your research.

TEACHING SUPPORT

Course reserves
Contact: Donna Minor, 8-1084

All materials submitted for course reserves must adhere to the University's copyright policy. For the policy please go to http://www.ua.edu/copyright.html.

We make your course reserves available to your students in electronic format whenever possible. Electronic reserves take three forms:

We can also place print copies of materials on reserve in the library. If you would like to place a book on reserve that the library does not own, we will attempt to order it for you. You might also want to consider placing your personal copy on reserve.

Just send us your list, and we'll work it all out. We require a two-week lead time at the beginning of the fall semester; requests are processed in the order received. We prefer a lead time of two business days during the semester.

If you prefer to make your reading list available online through WebCT or eLearning, we can help you set up URLs to articles in our databases.
