Dr. Heggem directs academic advising program and academic planning for Business students as director of the Asa H. Bean Undergraduate Student Services Center, as well as counseling students on career goals and options. He is also a member of the Alabama Association for Higher Education in Business. He is the recipient of the 1998 Penny Allen Award for service and unselfish commitment to students. In 2001, he received the Staff Appreciation Award for his support and dedicated service to the Undergraduate Student Services Staff. He helped establish the College's Business Honors Program which has now grown to more than 80 students. He currently serves as secretary for the Alpha Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma International Business Honorary. He is also a member of the Professional Sports Counseling Panel working with student-athletes as they prepare to enter professional sports.
