Admission Requirements

Each year, a limited number (usually three) of exceptionally qualified students are admitted to the doctoral degree program in management. Generally, these student have a master's degree, grade point average above 3.5, and GMAT in excess of 600 or GRE in excess of 1200. We also prefer that students interview on campus, whenever possible, with faculty members before the admission decision is made.

We do fall admissions only, and encourage prospective students to get their applications to us by January 15 of the year in which they would like to be considered for admission. Invitations are given to a small number of potential students for spring visits to campus, to interview and meet the faculty during March and early April. We will accept applications into the summer if we have yet to fill our available positions.

Summary of admission requirements:

  • An excellent prior record, from highly accredited universities, to include grades, and the trend and direction of grade performance;
  • High verbal and quantitative scores on the GMAT (> 600) or GRE (combined >1200), taken within the past three years;
  • Three letters of reference which speak specifically to the ability of the applicant to successfully complete the Ph.D. program and his or her potential for teaching and research;

  • Applicant's statement of purpose for pursuing the Ph.D. program (1-2 pages);
  • A writing sample (solely authored by the applicant, for example, a paper from a graduate course).  An example of scholarly research is preferred, in which case coauthors are acceptable as long as the applicant is the primary author.
  • Current resume

For international students whose native language is not English, a minimum score of 600 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), taken within the past two years, is required regardless of prior academic background.
