Sykora Named SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Graduate student Joseph Sykora was named as recipient of this year’s Southeastern Conference H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete of the
Year Award. This is the highest honor a studentathlete can receive in the SEC.
SEC Commissioner Mike Slive noted that Joseph has “displayed dedication and commitment to success in all phases” of his life.
Sykora is also a two-time member of the ESPN The Magazine All-America At-Large first-team and was voted the SEC Men’s Golf Scholar-
Athlete of the Year in 2006 and 2007.
Sykora, a senior from Daphne, Alabama, earned his undergraduate degree in accounting from UA in 2007 with a 4.0 GPA. He recently completed the Masters of Accountancy program at UA.
