PCAOB Director on Campus

Chris Mandaleris, deputy director of inspections for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), delivered four lectures on campus in fall 2007 concerning PCAOB policies and procedures.

Mandaleris is a graduate of The University of Virginia and received his master's degree in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University.
He worked for Ernst & Young in Birmingham and Greensboro. In 2003, he joined PCAOB. His son Dean is currently majoring in accounting at UA.

“My job is to basically make sure the inspections get done and to ensure that PCAOB continues to hire good people,” he said.

The PCAOB was created by the Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002. Funding for the nongovernmental board comes from fees paid by public companies, and the agency is under the oversight of the Securities Exchange Committee.

Mandaleris said the responsibilities of the agency include inspections of registered public accounting firms, investigations and enforcement, and the setting of standards for auditing, quality control and ethics.
